Want to unleash your creative side? Learn from the best at our exciting fiction writing workshop with Belfast-based writer Jan Carson! Jan will lead you through a series of creative writing exercises, prompts and discussions. Learn how to write fictional narratives based on historical characters using source material from our Bad Bridget exhibition.

This workshop will be full of practical tips for both beginners and emerging writers. Interested in writing historical fiction, creative memoirs and biography's? This event will be especially useful for you!

Jan Carson is the Belfast-based author of two short story collections, three novels and two micro-fiction collections. Her novel, The Fire Starters won the EU Prize for Literature for Ireland in 2019 and the Kitschies Prize for Speculative Fiction 2020 and was shortlisted for the Dalkey Book Prize 2020. Her third and most recent novel, The Raptures was published in January 2022. Most recently Jan worked on the Bad Bridget exhibition at the Ulster American Folk Park, responding to the stories of women who migrated to North America from Ireland during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

  • All participants are asked to bring their own pen and notebook. 

  • Price includes light refreshments, private access to view the Bad Bridget exhibition, plus the chance to explore the rest of the Folk Park.
