I’ll be introducing February’s dementia friendly screening at the Queen’s Film Theatre Belfast. Everyone’s welcome to join us at 10am for free refershments. Film begins at 10:30am. This month’s choice is a musical classic from director Vincente Minnelli, featuring songs by Lerner and Loewe.
Based on a novella by Colette, Gigi won a record setting (at the time) nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Musical Score and Best Original Song. Set in Paris, young Gilberte aka Gigi (Leslie Caron) tends to prefer fun and frivolity as opposed to the high Parisian society she is set to enter. But, will all that change when love comes between Gigi and her playboy friend Gaston (Louis Jourdan)?
Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner and musical composition by Frederick Loewe, the team that brought us My Fair Lady, Gigi is one of the last great MGM grand musicals.
Our Dementia Friendly screenings aim to make cinema more accessible by providing a fun and inclusive experience for people living with dementia, their families and carers. QFT is committed to the Age-Friendly Belfast Charter.
